To Write Love On Her Arms Day
Today, at least according to Facebook, is To Write Love On Her Arms Day, in which one writes LOVE on their arm.
A long time ago, I was a cutter.
Lots and lots of teenage girls are: I once knew a therapist who told me the number was 1 in 3 who tried.
The vision of TWLOHA includes a slightly Christian focus but I have never seen any Bible thumping as part of it. And here is part of it’s vision:
“Beyond treatment, we believe that community is essential, that people need other people, that we were never meant to do life alone.
The vision is that community and hope and help would replace secrets and silence.
The vision is people putting down guns and blades and bottles. “
I don’t have a lot to add to that. It took me a long time to learn that it is possible, and necessary, to put down the guns and blades and bottles, that community and hope are far better than secrets and silence.
